SUMMARY

 

Sr. Product Developer Nike Swim Gear: Manages product from concept to finished goods.

The process includes specification, prototyping, testing, evaluation/analysis & commercialization.  Responsible for assisting with the overall development of all Swim Gear product lines. Including; hands-on product creation, sku-planning, consumer/retailer insights, innovation, go-to-market, customer facing sell-in support, marketing collaboration, and international product/packaging compliance.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Support global /brand strategy to gain market share and grow the Nike Swim Hardgoods business.

Responsible for maintaining seasonal development calendar for Nike Swim Gear; ensuring that any necessary changes to timing dates & gates are accounted for each season and communicated internally.

Work with Quality Control team & external Nike Customer Safety teams to meet all necessary testing / approvals / compliance specifications.

Provide color standards to liaison office and / or vendors to ensure color meets Nike standards. Manages all color approvals with final sign-off from Gear Director.

Own communication with Factory Partners for all red-lines & revision requests throughout the development process -concept through commercialization.  Collaborates with Gear Director on comments and approvals for all Swim Gear development. Assist Gear Director by clarifying each new design concept with overseas vendors / liaison offices, creating and managing seasonal Tech Packs; to ensure accurate production and manufacturability.

Demonstrated proficiency specifying product mechanisms and functionality to ensure feasibility of manufacturing, and correct production.  Maintain integrity of all styles in development, ensuring all changes are reflected in PLM.

Responsible for collaborating with apparel team for any Hardgoods-specific print/graphic needs. Partners with internal Designers as needed to modify existing prints for usage on Hardgoods products. Accountable for ensuring vendors correctly execute on all prints / graphics.

Responsible for maintaining PLM in relation to new & carryover Swim Gear styles, owns all PLM assets for utilization / flow into NuOrder.

Responsible for build-out of all seasonal Swim Gear BOM’s.

Responsible for maintaining integrity of all styles through the development cycle; ensuring revisions are captured in PLM & communicated to liaison offices / vendors per the cadence of the development calendar.

Participate in weekly meetings with Gear Director and Merchandising to discuss progress of developments and general tracking to overall development calendar. Takes notes to recap any urgent issues for team follow-up.

Manage SXS order process: Issue PO’s by factory with consistent follow-up to ensure sample development hits specified deadlines. Communicate all sample tracking updates to Gear Director, Merchandising, Marketing & Nike Swim Division President as needed. Own Global Sample allocation / shipping.

Support an efficient process and communication flow between Gear Director, Marketing and external Design agencies for all issues pertaining to Swim Gear product.

Assist Marketing with the creation of seasonal Tech Sheets for the Sales Toolkit, creating wire-frame illustrations of new chassis & providing supplemental information / product specifications.

Has the ability to work well within the team, possesses in-depth knowledge in specific product categories. Highly-organized, detail-oriented team-player.

Assist with internal Prototyping, as well as the coordination of any 3rd party external prototyping.

Creates and maintains appropriate documentation for assigned products; ensures all appropriate development documentation is maintained including product specs, costing; and prototype notes.

Leads the collaboration between all necessary internal teams in order to resolve any product / packaging issues, from concept through commercialization.

Works directly with factories and suppliers to source and develop new technologies.

Responsible for travel / attendance of relevant trade shows, and annual visits to overseas factories to assist with overall product R & D.

Hands-on product creation: Proficient in Adobe Illustrator & Acrobat for CAD/Color work; working knowledge of 3D e-reader file programs to troubleshoot product construction/manufacturing issues, ability to read complex Hardgoods mechanical files, working knowledge of PLM, Proficient in Google App Suite.

Assists with setting pricing targets for Factory Partners/vendors, as well as the overall price negotiation process. Knowledge of key Hargoods raw materials (silicone, TPR, PC, Nylon, TPU; etc. is essential for the pricing component of this role).

Assist with gathering athlete, consumer and retailer insights globally to influence global product range.

Assist with, actively participate in & document all product testing.

Supports Gear Director with asset creation for GTM / Sales presentations. Assist with communications/presentations to Nike GPL team as needed.

Assist Gear Director with Sku Plan/Pricing Strategy/Product Segmentation/Margin Goals/Competitive Analysis/Sell-in.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

 

Prior experience leading/supporting a Hardgoods category segment in the Swim industry highly preferred. Demonstrated ability in Hardgoods product creation. *Previous experience in the Goggles space is a bonus.

Proficient in the management of the full product lifecycle for all Hardgoods/Gear styles: Concept/Design, Prototypes, sample molds, tooling; etc.

Ideal candidate will hold a BA or BFA.

Technologically skilled - CAD creation.

Hardgoods materials knowledge (Plastics, Polymers, Synthetics, Hard-Coatings).

Ability to learn how to operate a tabletop 3D printer. Working knowledge of Rhino is a plus for printing prototypes in-house.

Strong eye for color & detail.

Proven communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across the business.

Problem solver. Highly organized, proactive.

Domestic/International travel (Less than 10%) - factory partnerships, trade shows.

 


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

 

Bachelor's Degree in related field.

 Ability to swim, or any competitive swimming / diving / water polo experience is a bonus.

5 - 7 years of experience in the Swim Gear / related Hardgoods business.
