Basin Sports is the oldest business in the Killington community. In fact, the Basin Ski Shop opened ten days before Killington Ski Resort.  For more than sixty years Basin Sports has been a premier mountain-sports retailer with a long history of outstanding customer service. We have a strong passion for the outdoors and love sharing it with our customers. 

Basin is a fun, fast paced work environment that offers numerous perks. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with the ability to complete and manage tasks related to designing and building large outdoor sports purchases. The position offers the right candidate a real opportunity to have an impact on Basin’s Sports growth and brand image.

The start date is immediate. This is a full time, year round, position that allows for ample time to ski, ride, and bike. This position requires the person to work in Killington, Vermont at the shop.

Our ideal candidate is someone who wants to learn and grow as an outdoor buyer while working with a team of caring and friendly people. 

Roles and Responsibilities

Our Softgoods Buyer is primarily responsible for the planning, selecting and buying of merchandise for our winter and summer business. You will be responsible for a multi-million dollar buy. Duties include market research, competitor analysis, representing Basin Sports at trade shows, creating, and nurturing connections in the industry. 

Our Softgoods Buyer will have a strong interest in the outdoor sport industry with the desire to learn market trends.

The Softgoods Buyer will also be required to work and collaborate on the floor of our retail store in Killington, VT. This individual will work with our already strong team to nurture customer connections, sell products, and discuss current trends with our staff and customers. 

Duties

• Learn, with support from our team, our system of monitoring and building purchase orders. 

• Work with upper management to create and log purchase orders

• Learn the needs of our customers with the support of our management

• Use Basin’s 60+ years of experience in business to create a meaningful softgoods order that fits our unique customer base. 

• Work with the upper management to ensure that all deliveries satisfy the assigned purchase orders and rectify any issues with incoming orders

• Work with the sales teams and customers in store and online to develop lasting relationships. 

• Nurture and grow connections with multiple vendors through in person and remote communications. 

• Represent Basin at all trade shows

Qualifications

• Some softgoods buyer experience 

• A want to learn and grow as a buyer with support from our team

• Strong communication skills with individuals at various levels

• A love of the outdoors

• Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency, able to work both independently and on a team

• Impeccable attention to detail

• Ability to work well and communicate with a team

• Able to thrive in a high-stress and fast-paced environment
