Camp Counselor at Girl Scout Arizona Cactus Pine Council 

Season dates:May 16- August 2

Seasonal - Full Time

Location: Phoenix, Prescott, or Payson ( 4 Camp Locations. You choose where you want to work) 

Start Pay at $66 Daily Cash Rate for Unit Counselors

*Parsons Leadership Center (Phoenix, Az) offers Day Camp positions and also offer the option of residence for those that would like to live on site for the season.

*Willow Springs and Camp Maripai located in Prescott, Az and Shadow Rim Ranch located in Payson, Az offer residential positions in where you will live on site for the season.

Essential Functions *This list may not include all of the duties assigned

Program

  • Directly supervise 10-40 girls each session with a team of other counselors, providing timely feedback and support.
  • Provide assistance to the Unit Leader as requested including acting in her/his absence.  
  • Ensure the active involvement of campers and peers in the overall camp program.
  • Works under the supervision of assigned Unit Leader and in conjunction with other Unit Counselors and Program Specialists to create weekly schedules for girl-driven, safe, creative and educational program for campers geared toward campers’ ages, interests and abilities.
  • Helps coordinates use of facilities and cleanliness.
  • Responsible to lead general activities such as arts and crafts, nature, science and sports and games.; model constructive and enthusiastic participation in all program areas.
  • Assist in coordination/implementation of “All Camp” events, campfires, and other multi-age group activities. 
  • Participate in pre and post camp, inventory, and general clean-up as assigned.
  • Oversee dining hall operation at assigned times to ensure procedures are followed and foster an environment of consistent order for campers and staff.

 

Requirements and Qualifications                                                                                            

Requirements—

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  •  Current First Aid and CPR certification (provided during staff training if applicant needs).
  •                    Ability to function as part of a camp staff team, sharing concerns readily with supervisor.
  •                    Follow the guidelines of the Staff Working Agreement.
  •                   Ability to communicate with and provide direction to, staff and campers of varying age and skill levels.
  •                   Cognitive and communicative ability to manage multiple areas of camp program and operations.
  •                  Knowledge of common camper illnesses and proper sanitation in group living communities.
  •                  Ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camper supervision.
  •                  Ability to keep accurate, legible records.
  •                   Possess mental and physical strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

 

Desired Qualifications—

  • Experience working with children of varying ages.
  •         At least one season (six weeks) of experience in a camp setting. 
  •          Ability to safely drive a passenger vehicle with passengers and pass council driver screening and training.
  • Knowledge and experience in coordinating, implementing and supervising youth programs in an outdoor setting.
  •         Current driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Desire and ability to teach, work and relate successfully with children and staff.
  • Ability to effectively supervise the coordination of a variety of program activities in a camp setting.
  • Ability to work with persons of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Leadership / Followership skills.
  • Ability to learn and willingness to develop skills in a variety of program activities.
  • Ability to think and act calmly in a crisis.
  • Demonstrate compliance with all Camps rules, policies, and procedures in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrated maturity, sound judgment, integrity and flexibility.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self- control.
