About Us

GRIT is one of Boston’s highest-impact social enterprise startups, focused on helping people with disabilities live active lives. Founded by MIT mechanical engineers, we are building a direct-to-consumer ecommerce platform to scale our mission. GRIT’s core product, the Freedom Chair, is the official mobility device of Spartan Race’s Para Elite and is used by 1000s of riders around the world.


About the Role

As Manufacturing Engineer, you will own the production of the Freedom Chair and will play a critical role in bringing our supply chain and manufacturing operation to the next level. This role blends engineering and operations: design for manufacturing, process design, supplier management, inventory planning, quality control, and managing in-house assembly and fulfillment. We move fast and are growing quickly. The ideal candidate is excited to use their technical and leadership skills to solve hands-on problems, drive our manufacturing strategy, and manage our growing operations so that we can better serve our customers. This role reports directly to our founder and CTO.


Typical Day

  • Work with CTO on part manufacturability design and process improvements, updating solid models and engineering documentation accordingly

  • Communicate with Production team on open order queue and daily/weekly deliverables

  • Set inventory levels and work with team to procure based on service level

  • Coordinate with strategic vendors to manage flow of quality components, on budget and on time

  • Collaborate on continual improvement projects from the part level to the system level to increase manufacturing capacity. Examples include working on implementation of MRP software and expanding the production line and warehouse.

Qualifications


  • Prior manufacturing and production management experience, 3+ years preferred

  • Proficient in CAD and engineering prints/drawings. GD&T and SolidWorks preferred

  • Working knowledge of wide range of manufacturing processes including welding, sheet metal fabrication, and machining

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or equivalent experience

  • Strong communication and leadership skills

  • Ability to work from our Medford, MA headquarters
