Design Engineer

Summary

The Design Engineer will maintain and improve Niner’s position as an advanced performance bicycle brand through product engineering excellence. Under the direction of Management, a successful candidate would research and develop design concepts, manufacturing processes and related production methodology to continuously advance the performance of Niner designs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Design of bicycle frames and related parts as needed
• Communication of designs and project requirements to partner manufacturers and vendors
• Conducting analysis of failure modes and design changes to resolve stiffness and strength issues
• Collaborating with design team and contractors through design process
• Identifying and promoting the quest for new concepts, ideas, designs, technologies, process and materials
• Creating prototypes or test methods
• Working with the engineering team to support on-time, on-budget delivery of new designs or technologies
• Developing kinematic designs for new full suspension bikes

Education and/or Experience

BSID from accredited Industrial Design program or BS in Mechanical Engineering. Two to five years of Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering work experience in a Corporate In-House or Consultancy environment, sporting goods or active outdoor industry is a plus. Catia V5 CAD experience preferred (or equivalent CAD system) and Microsoft Office required. Surfacing and kinematics experience is a plus. A record of leading projects from concept to manufacturing and successful introduction of products into market. Created products that were representative of their respective brand. Created products that were appropriate for chosen market. Work collaboratively with domestic and international vendors and suppliers as required. Ability to work with a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team with active participation in constructive criticism of peers work and communication is key. This position will require some domestic and international travel.

Must be able to obtain a valid passport.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

Catia V5 or Solidworks CAD, and Microsoft Office experience required. Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchbook Pro, Keyshot a plus.
