Job Description & Requirements

The Head wrangler will be responsible for the overall running of the horse program. You will work in conjunction with the General Manager to develop systems, ranch horse guidelines, and weekly riding, guest, and wrangler schedules. The Head Wrangler will report to the General Manager. During the summer months this is a six day a week job. Hours are varied and will depend on number of guests and other projects to be accomplished. The Head Wrangler will be expected to put in whatever time is required to get the job done. All employees at The Bar W are hired for a specific position, but must be willing to help wherever needed.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Work with General Manager to interview, hire, and when necessary terminate wranglers
  • Develop riding guidelines for wranglers and guests. Implement and enforce these guidelines. Develop safety policies and make sure they are adhered to.
  • Teach wranglers and ranch staff policies for working with horses, conducting rides, feeding, and corral maintenance.
  • Care and feeding of all ranch horses
  • Making lists of daily riding schedules and making sure they are carried out on time and in a professional manner
  • Working with General Manager to order hay, feed, replacement tack and buy and sell horses as needed
  • Work with General Manager on a daily basis, to keep and follow through with lists of wrangler and guest schedules as well as lists of tasks to be accomplished.
  • Portraying a good example of team work to the guests and other co-workers
  • Maintaining a gentle, professional, and educational tome at all times when working with both animals and people
  • Other duties as assigned
