Job Description & Requirements

The Content Specialist will take a lead role in the writing, editing, and development of copy for digital marketing promotions and social media content for Santa Cruz Bicycles, Juliana Bicycles, and Cervelo Cycles, and through this, guiding the style, voice, and creative direction of these brands online.

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of cycling and cycling culture, and is more interested in leading out from a brand perspective rather than chasing trends. The role demands steadiness on the ‘send’ button, pixel-perfect attention to detail, native-level comfort working in distributed teams, and occasionally-insufferable dedication to creating and publishing exceptionally high-quality work.

We’re looking for a Major League utility infielder for this role—the Communication Specialist should be a words-first communicator, but well-versed in a broad swathe of media, channels, and campaign types. The incumbent will be responsible for professional copywriting and editing for social media, brand websites, email marketing, and other digital promotions.

Additionally, they will be expected to collaborate with designers, product managers, and other creative leaders on a variety of deliverables. The Specialist should have a deep understanding of what’s required to create, approve, and publish digital advertising campaigns and marketing promotions on multiple, global channels simultaneously—on time and on budget.

This person will sit alongside a remote Digital Marketing team while exercising their abilities as a critical contributor to multiple global marketing teams.

Overall Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  1. Write, edit, approve, and oversee publishing of copy on social media, brand websites, email marketing, and other digital promotions

  2. Audit copy on the brand websites and ongoing brand and product communications and help develop the team’s understanding of balancing the brand voice with technical copy needs like search optimization or platform limitations

  3. Liaise with the Global Marketing, Design, and Engineering teams to keep product launches and other promotions aligned, and to develop new ideas for compelling digital content

  4. Work closely with the European Marketing team and business partners to create local content as required

  5. Drive the continued development of editorial calendars and content management tools for each brand

Experience/Requirements:

  1. 4 – 6 years experience in a lead copywriting role; experience working with global teams preferred

  2. Superior creative writing ability with an expert level understanding of grammar, punctuation, voice and tone, and the ability to peer-edit on small teams

  3. Strong knowledge of mountain bikes, road bikes, various bike racing disciplines, and the bike industry

  4. Must possess a genuinely positive attitude and interest in being part of a small, remote team of riders and marketers

  5. Experience with project management tools such as Trello and Smartsheets expected, as well as project planning abilities and timeline management

  6. Ability to maintain a work schedule that will flex beyond 9-5 to early mornings, nights, and weekends to accommodate global team members in other time zones if needed

  7. Ability to travel throughout the US and some international locations on occasion, with some weekends and evening meetings

  8. Fluency in Spanish, French, or German is a plus
