Job Summary | Recreational Sports is seeking a Climbing and Challenge Course Coordinator. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position. The Department of Recreational Sports is a unit of the Division of Student Affairs that is committed to equalizing student success. We focus on informing, engaging, educating, equipping, and inspiring students as advocates for individual and community wellbeing. Recreational Sports provides opportunities to enrich student development and enhance transferable skills through experiences in our spaces, programs and services, including the student employment program. The Climbing and Challenge Course Coordinator provides leadership, coordination development, and instruction for the department’s climbing facilities, challenge course facility, and instruction and support of programming within Recreational Sports Adventure Leadership Institute (ALI). This position is integral to the expansion of networks in the OSU community, to develop partnerships that advance professional development and teambuilding initiatives, specifically associated with equalizing student success to first-year and transfer students. The Climbing and Challenge Course Coordinator reports to the ALI Operations Manager, and provides development, administrative, supervisory, professional, and technical support to Dixon Climbing Center, the McAlexander Fieldhouse Climbing Center, and the ALI Challenge Course, staff and participants. The main focus of their work will be providing operational and program coordination, instruction, training, and student development. The coordinator has experience supervising a climbing center and/or challenge course, and possess instructor-level skills and certifications in one or more of the following areas: indoor rock-climbing, outdoor rock-climbing, group facilitation, and challenge course operations. This position develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with other administrative professionals in the department and university community to complete projects with department-wide impact, to balance seasonal workloads and to ensure consistency in policy and procedure. This position supports the coordinated efforts of the ALI that develop leadership skills and competencies of its employees including instruction in area such as: challenge course facilitation, rock climbing, wilderness medicine, whitewater sports, alpine mountaineering and wilderness living techniques. Originally founded in 1947, The Adventure Leadership Institute provides awe-inspiring, transformative experiences to more than 9,500 students each year. The ALI is comprised of Leadership Certificate & Credit Courses, OSU Challenge Course, OSU Adventure Club, OSU Indoor Climbing facilities, Custom Programs and Equipment Rentals & Sales. ALI is the regional hub for SOLO Wilderness Medicine, the leading teacher of wilderness medicine worldwide, the Professional Climbing Instructors Association, and the ACA Raft Guide and Whitewater Rescue curriculum. |

The anticipated starting salary will be $51,000-$56,000.
